German ScorpioDesign creates exclusive collectible knives with a unique look, unlike anything we have ever seen before. Their artistic knives are characterized by exceptional design, function, materials and craftsmanship. Each of these objects was designed and made with great care for details.

The knife holds a special significance in the cultural history of all civilizations, due to its role as humankind’s first tool, knife tools were used at least two-and-a-half million years ago. Most important cultures throughout history have their unique version of the knife, and often it becomes the medium of artistic expression. Acutally knives have found their way as main exhibits in just about every history museum in the world. ScorpioDesign takes this concept to the 21st century and creates a unique collection of knives that are works of modern art in their own right. Their collection includes a number of exclusive hand-forged Damascus Steel Knives as well as various other collectible knives.

A wide spectrum of different materials and working techniques is used in the process of making these unique knives, from hand-forged Damascus Steel to laser-cut titanium, ScorpioDesign uses the best manufacturing techniques currently available.

ScorpioDesign is the brainchild of Gunther Lobach. The main focus of his work is on innovative folding knife mechanics, high-end chef’s knives and esthetic design objects, for which the line between cutlery and art is blurred. In his work the metallurgist-artist tries to cross the conventional borders, in terms of design as well as technology. Esthetics and ergonomics are united in a truly original collection of cutting artworks.

The most distinctive designs of ScorpioDesign are a combination of the millennia-old technique of forging Damascus Steel with modern, minimalist design. The aesthetic effect of the monochrome Damascus is enhanced by a selective combination with exclusive but plain materials, so the focus is put on intricate patterns and flowing shapes.

Damascus steel was a type of steel used in Middle Eastern sword making. Damascus steel swords are characterized by distinctive patterns of banding and mottling reminiscent of flowing water. Such blades were reputed to be tough, resistant to shattering and capable of being honed to a sharp, resilient edge. The reputation and history of Damascus steel has given rise to many legends, such as the ability to cut through a rifle barrel or to cut a hair falling across the blade, a reminiscent of tales told by crusading Europeans that tasted their blade.

Gunther Lobach, uses the distinctive patterns of banding and mottling that characterize Damascus Steel to create interesting shapes with a uniquely artistic flare.

Another ScorpioDesign trademark product is the award-winning Shapeshifter Folding Knife. At first there was the idea to develop a folding knife with a blade longer than it‘s handle. This challenge, as old as the folding knife itself, was mastered using pivoting handle segments, which align side by side or in line, according to their current function as handle or blade protection. The blade is kept open by a toggle lever-lock

ScorpioDesign collectible knives are unique, metallurgical artworks, designed and constructed with extreme attention to detail. Perhaps what an archeologist of the future would consider as artistic knives of the 21st century?
