Progetto Oggetto Vases by Tomoko Mizu for Cappellini.

Category: Decoration

Cappellini Progetto Oggetto Vase

These elegant minimalist vases were designed by Japanese Designer Tomoko Mizu for Italian furniture manufacturer Cappellini and are part of the highly acclaimed Progetto Oggetto collection.

The collection was first presented in 1992 and includes many celebrated and timeless pieces. With their compact, minimalist design, these exceptional vases create an interesting contrast between their geometric shape and the grace of the flower they will hold. They are made entirely of plexiglas® and are decorated with inlaid colored stripes. The concept behind the design is the fluid relationship between the discrete presence of color and the transparency of the material.

As the colored stripes are located at the vertical and the horizontal axis, depending on the lighting and the viewing angle, the color may appear as a isolated slice, or it may even color the entire vase. The Progetto Oggetto vase collection charms with its distinctive simplicity and entails a strong dose of contemporary art. At the same time, the flirtation of color and light is refracted through the transparent acrylic and adds the final touch. They are available in three versions featuring three different colors.

Calf and Half Creamer Pitcher by Fred and Friends.

Category: Kitchen

Calf and Half Creamer

The Calf and Half Creamer Pitcher by Fred and Friends is handcrafted of double-walled glass and when it is filled with milk it forms the picture of four cow udders.

According to its designer, Liz Goulet Dubois, Calf and Half is a gentle reminder of where our nutritive milk, that we daily consume, really comes from. In other words, it is a playful tribute to our beloved cows. The design is fun but also practical. Its double-walled glass suspends liquids above its base for condensation-free use, while it also maintains the temperature of any liquid inside it better than a simple single walled pitcher.

A simple and imaginative design that puts a smile effortlessly to anyone who sees it. The Calf and Half creamer urge us to “milk” our coffee.

ToFU lamp by Tokujin Yoshioka for Yamagiwa.

ToFU table lamp by Tokujin Yoshioka for Yamagiwa

The ToFU lamp was designed in 2000 by Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka for Yamagiwa. The design is a representative sample of Japanese Design: minimalist, strict, geometric and striking in its own unique way.

It is made from a monolithic block of transparent methacrylate, cut with absolute precision to accommodate an aluminum tube that houses a halogen lamp. The light travels through the transparent acrylic and is diffused by all sides, creating an elegant bright rectangle. The ToFU table lamp (similar to the popular Japanese food) is a successful study in minimalism, an understated ode to refined simplicity and timeless elegance. The significance of the ToFU Lamp is manifested through light, not the lamp.

Bye Bye Fly by Giulio Iacchetti.

Category: Various

Bye Bye Fly

Bye Bye Fly was designed by Giulio Iacchetti for Pandora Design and is definitely amongst the most imaginative fly swatters in the market.

It is an object that made me smile from the first moment that I saw it. It is made in Italy and originally was intended to be an unconventional souvenir from the city of Milan. The obvious inspiration were the plenty mosquitoes usually invading the city’s summer night. The design twist is that the traditional fly swatter net was replaced with a miniature map of Milan.

According to my viewpoint, it is mainly a clever decorative item, but if you decide to go fly hunting, at least you can do so in style. Bye Bye Fly is made of plastic and available in a variety of colors.

Miss Less Chair by Philippe Starck for Kartell.

Category: Furniture

Miss Less Chair by Philippe Starck for Kartell

Miss Less Chair is the latest work of Philippe Starck in collaboration with Eugeni Quitllet for Italian manufacturer Kartell. It is a sculptured chair made of contemporary shiny plastic molding

Is it absolutely minimalistic or extremely impressive? Probably both, as Philippe Starck once again makes the difficult seem easy and the complex to appear simple. The talented French created a chair which is radically different from everything else and stands out quite effortlessly. Plain and minimalistic, the Miss Less Chair is indeed a modern sculpture.

The base consists of a single monolithic cube and the backrest is a slim, graceful straight line. A rigorous and bold chair which grew out of a sculpture is transformed into an industrially produced household item. It was presented as a prototype at the Salone del Mobile 2011 and according to Kartell it is expected to be available worldwide within the year. The Miss Less Chair is already considered a classic piece of modern industrial Design.

Dissolve mirror by Arik Levy for Robba Edition.

Category: Decoration

Dissolve Mirror by Arik Levy

The Dissolve mirror was designed by Arik Levy for Robba Edition and seems to dissolve in space, while distorting the reflections of the surrounding space and creating a surreal image.

The mirror is made in France from high quality 3mm acrylic mirror glass. It is constructed using a technique of digital laser cutting which enables to cut with great precision, making it possible to create such complex and impressive shapes. Robba Edition proposes a new design approach with contemporary mirrors, where desire and emotion reign.

Both fixed and moving, Dissolve Parts is a very aesthetically pleasing mirror, which decomposes itself and also its soundings by distorting what it reflects. Moreover imaginary reconstruction of the rectangle formed by the mirror can be interpreted as a mental puzzle. The Dissolve mirror is more a work of art than a conventional practical mirror. Thus, it stands out due to its artistic rather than practical value.
