Carbon Fiber Candle Holders by Italia Independent.

Category: Decoration

Italia Independent Carbon Fiber Candle Holder

The futuristic Candelabro Single and Candelabro 7 candle holders by Italian company Italia Independent are hand-made from solid carbon fiber and introduce the technological materiality of carbon to the classical object of candelabrum.

The concept behind the use of an exotic material such as carbon fiber for the construction of a candle holder was the contrast of the old with the new. In this case, the technical specifications of the material do not add something to the usability of the object, but the Hi-Tech look of carbon fiber is in direct contrast to the nostalgic and retro candle lighting, resulting in a uniquely artistic and striking stylistic effect.

The Safretti Gaya bio-ethanol fireplace appears like a painting on the wall.

Category: Decoration

Safretti Gaya Fireplace

Gaya is the latest wall mounted bio-ethanol fireplace by Safretti. It was designed by Dutch designer Roderick Vos and has a unique super-sleek design. At first sight it does not appear as a fireplace but rather like a painting on the wall.

When the Gaya is lightened up it resembles a live painting where the fireplace is the canvas and the dancing fire the main theme. However even when the Gaya is not being used, it is still a stunning looking object and an artistic interior design element. The distinguishing aspect of the Gaya is its utterly minimalist design. Roderick Vos removed everything unnecessary, thus creating a “pure” form there the black color of the fireplace becomes the ideal background for the magnificent and dynamic shape of flame.

Machine Lights by Frank Buchwald

Frank Buchwald is a designer and manufacturer of furniture, lights, and objects. As he states, he is charmed by the characteristic shape of the machinery of the industrial era and feels an attraction for complex metal objects and machines.

“For me, the idea of the machine lights developed over many years of dealing with the nature of modern technology, especially the mechanical artifacts of the industrial age. It is associated for me with the realization that an independent reality which withdraws itself from human access exists behind the manifest appearances of mechanical objects and secretly determines the world of the machines.” So it comes as no surprise that his latest creations, the “Maschinen Leuchten” lamp collection, are mechanical light sculptures with strong unique character and great complexity.

Nendo Thin Black Lines Minimalist Furniture.

Nendo Thin Black Lines

The Thin Black Lines series by Japanese Design Studio Nendo  is a furniture collection made of thin black wire, and is an absolute expression of minimalism.

According to Nendo: “Outlines were the theme of this collection. Slight black lines like the traces of sketches drawn in the air made transparent surfaces and volumes appear, which we assigned practical functions.” The inspiration behind the Thin Black Lines collection was the linear shape found in Japanese calligraphy. The aim was to create three-dimensional objects made from slim black lines, which constitute condensed expressions of meaning, similar to Japanese calligraphy.

The Thin Black Lines furniture clearly resemble artistic sketches and look as if they just jumped out from the paper. The series consists of a variety of objects such as chairs, tables, bowls, vases, lamps and mirrors. The common feature is the absolutely linear design that appears to traverse space between two and three dimensions, creating a multi-dimensional form.
