Herman Miller SAYL Task Chair by Yves Béhar.

Category: Furniture

Herman Miller Sayl by Yves Behar

World-renown furniture company Herman Miller recently assigned the design of its new office chair to famous designer Yves Béhar and the result is the beautiful SAYL task chair. Béhar’s inspiration was the Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco, where he is residing. If someone notices the chair by the side, he will observe that the angle that the chair forms on the back side vividly reminds the profile of San Francisco’s distinctive landmark.

Herman Miller SAYL task chair integrates all these values which established Herman Miller as one of the leading furniture manufacturers, innovation, beautiful design, anatomically correct shape, quality and respect towards the environment.

Inspired by the principles of suspension bridges, the frameless back of the SAYL work chair encourages a full range of movement while the suspension back material keeps you cool. Its first-class ergonomics are defined by the carefully-designed shape of the seat and the special backrest which is made from a flexible perforated material, designed in 3-D for controlled distortion. The backrest takes the shape of the body and embraces the user and provides support where needed without forcing different body types to pre-defined seating positions.

Zaha Hadid Triflow

British brassware manufacturer Triflow Concepts commissioned famous architect Zaha Hadid in order to explore together the possibilities of implementing new manufacturing technologies and create the faucet of the future.

Hadid used the most advanced 3-D design techniques to create a faucet which is a real sculpture. The design is inspired by the fluidity of water, the single-piece organic form impresses and renders the Zaha Hadid Triflow a genuine work of art. Its unique shape is instantly recognizable as the most recent evolution of Zaha Hadid’s distinctive style. Organic and surprising, the sculptural sensibility of the tap’s fluid form makes the bold and elegant gesture of a signature piece.

Ferm Living Cushions.

Category: Decoration

Ferm Living Cushions

For some strange reason that I do not fully understand, finding a set of some stylish cushions for my couch has proved more difficult than I originally expected.

My preferences were relatively simple, I just wanted something that would be cool, original, slightly artistic, and made from natural materials. Although, a cushion is an extremely common object that we all have at home, I had not found anything that I liked for a long time.

Finally, I discovered today that Danish company Ferm Living, which is known for the original wall stickers it produces, also makes great cushions. They are made from 100% natural materials such as cotton and silk and look really original and stylish. Ferm Living cushions are available in modern designs, and there are many fascinating options in both black-and-white and multicolored patterns.

Juilian Hakes Mojito Heels now in Production.

Category: Fashion

Julian Hakes Mojito Shoe

A few months ago, in a previous article, I mentioned my enthusiasm for the incredibly minimalistic Mojito High Heels by architect Julian Hakes.

According to a press release which was recently posted on Julian Hakes website, thousands of people worldwide (who apparently like appreciate minimalist design) showed their interest in this concept. As a result during the London Fashion Week that took place in September, the final version of the shoe was presented. It will become commercially available in summer 2011.

The final version of the shoe based on the same design principles as the original, but it is clearly improved aesthetically and anatomically, although I wonder whether the central piece will eventually be made of carbon fiber as in the original concept.

Ghosts of WWII by Sergey Larenkov.

Category: Art

Sergey Larenkov WWII Photography

Russian photographer and graphic designer Sergey Larenkov started a fascinating project, by using computational rephotography he is overlaying WWII era photographs with modern day photographs from the exact same place.

With the aid of his photographic Lens and Photoshop, Sergey Larenkov travels us through time, in a way both spooky and stunning. Streets remain the same, but the scenery is radically different as we travel through one of Europe’s darkest times. Berlin, Saint Petersburg, Paris, Prague and other historic cities are the scenery on which the history of Europe unfolds, as the past blends with into the present.

The work done with Photoshop is amazing and the matching of photographs is also flawless. All pictures are shot from the exact same angle and overlap perfectly, creating many striking images. The contrast of the identical locations in the past and the present is shocking, reminding us how little time has passed since the great war and how quickly  the world changes. Each picture is literally worth a thousand words.

Mission One Electric Superbike by Mission Motors.

Category: Technology

Mission One Electric Superbike

San Francisco-based Company Mission Motors made its mission the production of the first 100% electric superbike. Behold its first prototype, the awesome looking Mission One electric superbike.

There are already several electric motorbikes, but almost all are scooters for everyday use. The founders of Mission Motors wanted to take the concept of the electric motorbike many steps further, and began in 2007 to experiment with electric drive on a second-hand 1994 Ducati SS 900. After three years of experimentation and testing, the company is now very close to the production of the first model, the Mission One electric superbike.

The Mission One was designed by fuseproject’s Yves Behar and is powered by a liquid-cooled electric motor that generates 13.8 kg of torque available from 0 to 6500 rpm. Since the bike is electric, it needs neither gearbox nor clutch, full power is instantly available by just pressing the accelerator. Even though the bike is still under development the performance claims shatter conventional performance and range limitations in other electric motorcycle designs, displaying the incredible potential of the electric drivetrain in a motorcycle application. In this case the magic number is 241, as the Mission One makes incredible performance claims of 241km top speed and 241km range, and all that with less than 2 hours charging. Apparently electric motorbikes are going wild!

RPH Sofa by Fabio Novembre for Cappellini.

Category: Furniture

Fabio Novembre RPH Sofa

Italy is probably the country with the most innovative companies in the area of furniture Design and perhaps remains the biggest cradle of radical designers and new ideas for materials, styles and shapes. As a result, there are many worthwhile proposals from Italian companies and it is not easy for a designer to create something different that has its own identity.

However the RPH sofa (Revolutions Per Hour) designed by Fabio Novembre for Cappellini really has a very personal style that combines elements of sculpture, luxury, futurism and ergonomics in a unique way.

Awesome Lace Bracelets by Sandra Bautista.

Category: Fashion

Sandra Bautista Bracelaces

“Bracelaces” are a stunning collection of unique lace bracelets with a very feminine and elegant style by Spanish designer Sandra Bautista.

The Bracelaces are so light and elegant that they look fragile. Their fine construction makes them appear valuable (although the truth is that they are extremely affordable) while the semi transparency, that reveals the skin beneath them, adds this dose of mystery that makes them so seductive.

A very unique and versatile accessory by Sandra Bautista, which looks beautiful and dramatic at the same time. The Bracelaces will complement any type of outfit and they look equally good with vintage or modern clothing.
