Arrow Hanger by Design House Stockholm.

Category: Decoration

Design House Stockholm is one of the most important ambassadors of the Scandinavian Design School. Their products are consistently of high quality, innovative and as one would expect, utterly minimalistic.

The Arrow hanger, designed by Gustav Hallén firmly adheres to the aforementioned principles. Made by precision-milled powder-coated aluminum, it is durable, functional and elegant. In a horizontal position the arrow hanger supports hefty loads and can be easily accommodate your daily clothes. But even if you close it there are still three hooks on which to hang various items. When not in use, the Arrow hanger will adorn the wall like an iconic graphic symbol.

Even though the Arrow is just one year old (designed in 2009), it has already won a “red dot award” and a place in the permanent collection of the Modern Art Museum in New York, MoMa.

Denver’s Big Blue Bear sculpture by Lawrence Argent.

Category: Art

Denver Big Blue Bear sculpture by Lawrence Argent

Art installations in public places are one of my favorite forms of artistic creation, because they improve the surroundings and communicate artistic concerns to the general public.

Convention centers are usually strict and sterile, because they are built for corporate presentations and major conferences. However, the management at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, United States, thought that their convention center needed a sense of fun and playfulness. So they recruited local artist Lawrence Argent, who quickly diagnosed that the missing element of the building was of course a huge 12.5 meter high blue bear which is peeking curiously into the lobby.

FF1 Armchair by Fox & Freeze.

Category: Furniture

FF1 Armchair

The FF1 armchair looks like a delicate creation, but in reality it is incredibly durable. It is a product of cooperation between the two Belgian designers James Van Vossel and Tomde Vrieze who joined their forces to create the design studio Fox & Freeze.

The FF1 is made out of a square piece of synthetic material felt. The square piece is folded in such a way that forms the chair, without any loss of material, except for the drilled holes used to attach the rope that stabilizes the construction.

According to its creators, the FF1 design is characterized by pure lines and detail to structural cohesion which offers the seat strength and solidity, while the detail with the connecting ropes adds the final touch to a functional and inspired design.

Hansa Hansalatrava Electronic Faucet.

Category: Decoration

Hansa Hansalatrava

The Hansalatrava faucet by Hansa is characterized by chic architectural design and unique technological innovations.

Designed by Bruno Sacco and Reinhard Zetsche, it is simple, chic and minimalist, but also equipped with state of the art technology. Hansalatrava sprays the water in such a way that creates a “water veil” that looks like a small diagonal waterfall. When one uses his personal small waterfall, he can also feel ecologically responsible as Hansa’s sophisticated water-guidance system consumes 40% less water than conventional faucets, through improved diffusion of water.

The temperature regulation is electronically controlled, while a built-in LED screen displays the water temperature using a color-coded blue and red scale.Hansa Hansalatrava has won many awards for design excellence, such as the “iF product design award” and the “Good Design” award.

Chikuno Cube Natural Air Freshener.

It is small, has an attractive design and absorbs odors!

The Chikuno Cube solves the problem of bad odors in an environment friendly way and with impeccable style. Forget the liquid chemical deodorizers and synthetic car fresheners. It is made in Kyoto, Japan from bamboo charcoal, which comes from bamboo carbonization at a temperature of 800°+ degrees Celsius.

This material has the capacity to absorb pollutants and in particular those that cause bad odors. The bamboo charcoal is has a perforated honey-comb with billions of tiny holes, thus offering a huge absorption surface with a small volume.

Leave the Chikuno Cube to eco-absorb odors and the only thing you have to do is to expose it in the sunlight for 5-6 hours once a month in order to get rid of these accumulated pollutants it has absorbed and get “recharged”.

Coink Porcelain Piggy Bank

Category: Decoration Various

In the cartoons and illustrated comics, when piggies express themselves, they are making the “OINK” sound, so if a piggy bank was to do the same, it would probably “COINK”.

Something like that must have been in the designer Scott Henderson’s mind, when he was designing the COINK piggy bank. Traditional piggy banks have a small slot where coins must be placed one by one. The modern COINK responds to the trend of the modern times by using a funnel where one can empty a handful of coins with a single move.
